Write a story

Our commitment

What we promise, and what we refuse to do.

Trust is the only reason a travel journal is worth reading. These are the standards we hold ourselves to, and the ones you can hold us to.

To our readers

We will publish travel writing that comes from experience, includes the details that make a journey possible, and does not pretend that a place is easier, cheaper or safer than it is. If we do not know something, we will say so rather than fill the gap with confidence.

We will not use clickbait headlines, invent a traveller's voice, or hide a commercial relationship behind an editorial one. When a story contains a partnership, a free stay or a paid element, the reader will be told clearly and early.

To accuracy

Every story is edited before publication and checked against the contributor's own account. We cannot verify every price or bus timetable, and travel information ages quickly, so we date our stories and ask contributors to date their experience. Where something is uncertain, we label it.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it. Send the page address and the detail in question to corrections@tourarticles.com. If the correction changes the substance of a story, we will note it in the story rather than quietly replacing the original text. Serious errors can lead to a story being withdrawn while it is rechecked.

To editorial independence

Editorial decisions are made by editors, not by advertisers, destination boards or tour operators. We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not sell placement in a guide. A tour on this site is described so a reader can understand it; it is not a booking, and we take no commission from one.

Contributors must disclose any relationship that a reasonable reader would want to know about. The full rules are in our community guidelines.

To our contributors

Contributors are credited for their work. We edit for clarity, accuracy and length, but we do not invent quotes, add experiences that did not happen or change the meaning of a first-hand account. Where an editor proposes a substantial change, the contributor has the chance to discuss it.

We will be clear about what we are asking for, pay attention to deadlines, and explain why a piece is declined. Verification exists to protect readers and contributors alike; it is not a ranking of who travels best.

To the people and places we cover

We will not treat a community as scenery. We ask contributors to seek consent before photographing people, to avoid identifying private individuals, and to respect local rules and sacred places. We will not publish precise locations when doing so could damage vulnerable wildlife or a fragile site.

Travel has an impact. We would rather publish fewer stories about a place than encourage a crowd it cannot absorb, and we will not present irresponsible behaviour as an adventure worth copying.

To your privacy

We collect what is needed to run the site, publish stories and keep accounts secure. We do not sell personal data or build advertising profiles. Optional analytics, if introduced, will run only after you allow them. The cookies we actually set are listed on the cookie consent page, where you can also change your choice.

To a readable, accessible site

We work to keep pages fast, legible and usable with a keyboard or a screen reader. Images should carry useful alternative text, headings should make sense in order, and essential information should never be conveyed by colour alone. If a page is difficult to use, tell us and we will fix it.

What we will not do

  • Sell editorial coverage or disguise advertising as a story.
  • Publish fabricated journeys or fabricated first-hand detail.
  • Use a place or a person's story without care or consent.
  • Trade reader data for advertising profiles.
  • Leave a known error uncorrected because correcting it is awkward.

Hold us to it

These commitments are not a slogan; they are the terms on which this journal asks to be read. If we break one, write to corrections@tourarticles.com and we will answer.
